Chengdu, the capital of  Sichuan Province, which  is also known as  the "Heavenly State, is located in the west of the Sichuan Basin and in the center of Chengdu Plain. It covers a total area of 12.3 thousand square kilometers (4,749 square miles) and has a population of over 11 million. Chengdu is known for being a natural habitat of cute, giant pandas, and for its famous Sichuan cuisine.

Chengdu was where the bronze culture, an  indispensable part of  ancient Chinese culture, originated;  where  the Southern Silk Road started, and where the earliest paper currency was first printed.
